Merz praises Linnemann as steadfast politician at Paderborn speech

Christian Democratic Union (CDU) leader Friedrich Merz lauded Carsten Linnemann, who is set to become Germany's next Federal Minister of Health, during a traditional gathering in Paderborn. Merz spoke highly of Linnemann at the "Libori-Mahl" event, attended by local entrepreneurs.

Merz described Linnemann as a passionate social policy expert who will assume responsibility next Wednesday. "You will then have a Paderborn resident in the cabinet," Merz told the audience, emphasizing Linnemann's deep engagement with policy issues. He further praised Linnemann's proven ability to "stand firm against headwinds," stating, "We need people like that."

Merz had announced his decision to appoint Linnemann to the ministerial post on Friday. The current minister, Nina Warken, will transition to the role of Head of the Chancellery. Linnemann, who currently serves as the Bundestag representative for Paderborn, is expected to bring his extensive experience to the health ministry.
