Meta restores posts removed from Kerala CM's page; VD Satheeshan demands explanation

Meta has restored posts removed from Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheeshan’s official Facebook page, but the chief minister’s office is demanding an explanation for why they disappeared in the first place.

The two posts concerned an Onam festival bonus for ASHA workers and greetings for Milad-un-Nabi, the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad. Satheeshan confirmed on X that the content was back online, while raising concerns about the vulnerability of verified government communications on social media.

“While the content is back online, the arbitrary takedown of verified government communications ranging from festival greetings to welfare notices remains a serious concern,” he said.

The Chief Minister’s Office has formally escalated the issue to Meta and India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Chief Minister’s Secretary Rattan U. Kelkar asked for details under the Information Technology Act, including whether automated systems or manual intervention caused the removals. The office also asked Meta to explain the action and urged the ministry to intervene so it does not happen again.
