Meta's 'Pervert Glasses' Sued in Germany Over Privacy Concerns

Meta's smart glasses, already criticized as 'pervert glasses,' are now facing legal action in Germany. The digital rights organization 'HateAid' filed a criminal complaint against Meta and its German distributors, alleging violations of the digital privacy law. The group argues that selling smart glasses with audio and video recording capabilities infringes on privacy rights, as individuals cannot escape the potential for being filmed without their knowledge.

The complaint highlights the constant anxiety users and bystanders may experience, fearing their images or conversations could be secretly recorded and disseminated online. HateAid specifically cited Germany's Federal Digital Privacy Law, which prohibits the sale of communication devices that allow for non-consensual recording.
