Metro Vancouver wildfire prompts evacuation alerts as Fraser Canyon residents return home

An active wildfire in Belcarra Regional Park has triggered evacuation alerts for 35 properties in the village of Anmore, located north of Port Moody in Metro Vancouver. Residents have been advised to prepare essential items and be ready to evacuate at short notice. Local officials are providing support to the affected community.

Meanwhile, residents in and around Boston Bar, a community in British Columbia's Interior, are starting to return home. Evacuation orders for the area have been reduced to evacuation alerts, allowing some normalcy to return after weeks of displacement. However, the Fraser Valley Regional District emphasizes that residents must remain prepared to leave as the Brunswick Creek and Ainslie Creek wildfires persist.

These wildfires, which collectively cover more than 480 square kilometers, are still burning out of control. The destruction caused by wildfires in the Interior has been significant. Authorities have confirmed that approximately 120 properties outside Clinton have lost structures. Additionally, at least 230 homes were destroyed near Okanagan Lake, west of Vernon, highlighting the widespread impact of the ongoing fire season.
