Mexican adaptation of "She Was Pretty" to premiere in 2026

A Mexican adaptation of the popular South Korean drama "She Was Pretty" is in the works, with a planned premiere for late 2026. Titled "Cuando Fui Bonita," the series aims to reinterpret the beloved 2015 romantic comedy, which captivated audiences with its message of personal acceptance and second chances.

Produced by Pedro Ortiz de Pinedo for Univision, the adaptation will star Geraldine Galván as Paola Hernández, a charismatic but insecure 29-year-old, and Daniel Gama Moreno as Juan Ramírez, a successful and attractive executive. The story follows Paola, who was considered beautiful in her youth but experienced a change in appearance over time. Her world is turned upside down when she reconnects with her childhood friend, Juan, who has overcome his own insecurities to become a successful figure in the fashion industry.

The series will be set at "Te Most," a prestigious Mexican fashion magazine where beauty and image are paramount. The reunion of Paola and Juan sparks the discovery of their true feelings as they learn to accept each other for who they are. The production has begun filming in Mexico City and will air on open television via Canal 5. The original series, which ran for 16 episodes, delved into themes of friendship, self-esteem, and self-love amidst a superficial world. It is currently available on streaming platforms like Netflix, HBO Max, Prime Video, and Viki.
