Mexican Air Force enhances fleet, acquires first of two Super Hercules cargo planes

The Mexican Air Force (FAM) has bolstered its aerial transport capabilities with the acquisition of its first C-130J Super Hercules tactical transport aircraft. This move positions Mexico as the inaugural operator of this advanced aircraft model in Latin America. The C-130J Super Hercules, manufactured by Lockheed Martin, offers enhanced power, extended range, improved fuel efficiency, and greater cargo space compared to previous versions. The Secretariat of National Defense (Defensa) received the first aircraft in January, with a second one planned for acquisition. General Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, Secretary of National Defense, highlighted the importance of the FAM's transport flights, particularly in delivering aid to Venezuela following earthquakes. He stated that the fleet would be strengthened with two C-130 Super Hercules, each capable of carrying 21 tons. This decision was made under the instructions of the supreme commander. Lockheed Martin describes the C-130J as the most advanced Hercules ever built, capable of performing over 20 types of missions. These include natural disaster response, aerial delivery, search and rescue, firefighting, medical evacuation, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, and special operations. The latest version features a lengthened fuselage, adding 4.5 meters of cargo space, and is equipped with advanced electronic systems, increased range, higher speed, and improved survivability. Globally, the C-130J is considered a cornerstone of air mobility, with a fleet exceeding 560 aircraft worldwide. The acquisition by the Mexican Air Force signifies a significant upgrade in its logistical and operational capacity.
