Mexican Football Federation backs Rafael Márquez as national team coach until 2030

Rafael Márquez has been appointed as the new head coach of the Mexican National Team, with the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) backing him until 2030. This decision aims to provide continuity to a project initiated with the arrival of Javier Aguirre in August 2024.

Ivar Sisniega, the FMF's executive president, stated that the contract with Márquez was signed with the intention of allowing him to learn from Aguirre and be part of the World Cup preparation process. Sisniega highlighted Márquez's preparation, including his UEFA Pro diploma, and his extensive experience as a player for both club and country.

Sisniega also noted Márquez's involvement with the U-20 World Cup and his focus on the next generation of players. The FMF expressed full confidence in Márquez's tactical vision, communication skills with players, and moral authority, believing he will lead a satisfactory transition with a mix of young talent and experienced players.

The FMF emphasized that the relationship and communication with players during the 2026 World Cup and prior have been positive, signaling good prospects for the new project led by the former Atlas player.
