Mexican influencer shot dead during live stream in Culiacán

A live-streamed social media broadcast turned fatal for Mexican influencer César Gastélum, who was shot and killed Tuesday night in Culiacán, Sinaloa. Gastélum, known online as "Compasexor" and boasting over 500,000 followers on TikTok, was filming a video with friends dressed as food delivery drivers when two individuals on a motorcycle approached and one shot him in the head.

The live stream was abruptly cut off following the attack outside a Kentucky Fried Chicken. While the platform later removed the video, some outlets shared graphic footage of the incident. Initial police reports suggested the victim was a delivery driver, but evidence from the recording and witness accounts led investigators to identify Gastélum, 25, who primarily shared lifestyle content.

The brazen attack took place in a bustling commercial plaza near the Sinaloa Attorney General's office. Military and police forces responded to the scene, with forensic experts collecting evidence. This district has been plagued by internal conflicts within a powerful local cartel for the past two years. Mexican media has reported the killings of about a dozen influencers in Sinaloa in recent years, some allegedly linked to criminal organizations.
