Mexican Navy sets 10 maritime goals to strengthen naval power, highlights nation's oceanic wealth

Mexico's Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) has outlined ten strategic maritime objectives to forge its National Maritime Policy, aiming to significantly enhance the nation's naval and maritime capabilities. The policy, envisioned for completion by 2045, seeks to consolidate Mexico's strength and leverage its extensive coastlines and marine resources.

The ten core objectives encompass a broad spectrum of maritime interests, including maritime security, the national port system, port and maritime protection, maritime culture, the naval industry, marine natural resources, maritime trade, the merchant marine, the marine environment, and nautical tourism. Semar stated that these interests form the "backbone" of the National Maritime Policy, representing a synthesis of societal and governmental efforts.

Semar emphasized Mexico's privileged position, blessed with seas that offer "wealth, opportunity, connection with the world, and future for coastal communities." The National Maritime Policy is designed to articulate these diverse aspects into a cohesive strategy focused on security and development. This policy framework integrates national and international legal foundations, priority objectives, and the concepts of the National Maritime System.

The initiative also plans to incorporate local proposals and projects to further strengthen the policy's vision and strategy. By focusing on these ten key maritime interests, Mexico aims to build a robust and integrated maritime sector that contributes to national security and economic prosperity.
