Mexican Senate Prepares for Marathon Session on Reform Initiatives

The Mexican Senate's Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) is mapping out a strategy for a potentially marathon extraordinary session dedicated to debating and voting on reform initiatives. The legislative agenda hinges on the arrival of proposed bills from the Chamber of Deputies, which are anticipated between Wednesday and Thursday.

A plenary session is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, May 28, at 3 p.m. However, the Senate's committees must first conclude their review and approval of the initiatives before they can be forwarded to the Mesa Directiva (Board of Directors).

Given the legislative process, senators anticipate beginning the analysis, debate, and voting on the initiatives late Thursday. The session could stretch through the night, potentially concluding in the early hours of Friday, May 29. This extended debate reflects the significant nature of the reforms under consideration.

Meanwhile, the Permanent Commission of the Congress of the Union has called its next session for Monday, June 1. This session will focus on declaring the constitutionality of the reforms once they have been approved by at least half of the state congresses.
