Mexican Stock Exchange ends five-day rally with slight dip

The Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV) halted its recent upward trend, experiencing a 0.15% decrease and closing at 66,191 points on the Índice de Precios y Cotizaciones (IPC). This marks the end of a five-session rally, reflecting a broader pattern of losses observed in global markets.

Gabriela Siller, Director of Economic and Financial Analysis at Grupo Financiero Base, noted that capital markets worldwide saw widespread losses. In Mexico, the IPC's dip followed this global sentiment. Within the Mexican market, notable decliners included shares of Industrias Peñoles, which fell 1.98%, Orbia down 1.97%, GCC off 1.64%, and Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte losing 1.51%.

Despite the day's downturn, the accumulated performance for 2026 remains positive, standing at 2.93%. However, the index has seen a 1.11% retreat over the current month. The Mexican peso also experienced a slight depreciation against the U.S. dollar, closing at over 16.95 pesos per dollar, according to the Bank of Mexico.

Trading volume on the exchange was substantial, with 138.5 million shares changing hands for a total value of 13.541 billion pesos. Out of the 719 companies listed, 371 saw their share prices increase, while 320 experienced losses, and 28 remained unchanged. Among the day's top gainers were telecommunications firm Axtel, whose series saw an 8% rise, and Controladora Axtel with a 7.57% increase, alongside tequila producer José Cuervo, which climbed 3.36%.
