Mexican University Strengthens Accountability Pact with Federal Audit Office

The Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT) has pledged to enhance its fiscal oversight and accountability measures, aligning with national policies for higher education. Rector Dámaso Anaya Alvarado reaffirmed the institution's commitment to transparency during a working session convened by the Federation's Superior Audit Office (ASF) in Mexico City.

Alvarado joined leaders from 30 public universities across Mexico at the dialogue. A significant outcome of the meeting was the signing of a collaboration agreement between the ASF and the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (ANUIES). This pact seeks to bolster inter-institutional coordination, technical collaboration, and information exchange among universities.

The agreement specifically targets strategies for the proper management of public funds, improved accountability, and the fight against corruption. It also includes provisions for citizen participation and opportunities for university students to undertake internships within the ASF for training in audit processes.

Notable attendees at the event included Javier Herrera Borunda, president of the ASF's Vigilance Commission of the Chamber of Deputies; David Isaac Ortiz Calzada, secretary general of Superior Auditing; and Alfonso Damián Peralta, head of the Specialized Audit of Federative Entities. The initiative underscores a nationwide effort to strengthen financial governance within Mexico's public university system.
