Mexico City Issues Yellow Alert for Heavy Rains and Hail in Five Boroughs

Five boroughs in Mexico City are under a yellow alert due to the forecast of heavy rains and potential hail on Wednesday afternoon and evening, August 12. The Secretariat of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) issued the alert for Azcapotzalco, Cuauhtémoc, Gustavo A. Madero, Miguel Hidalgo, and Venustiano Carranza. Meteorologists predict rainfall between 15 and 29 millimeters, accompanied by hail, expected between 6:55 PM and 10:00 PM. In response to the forecast, the SGIRPC has issued several recommendations to the public. Citizens are advised to carry umbrellas or raincoats and to use water for watering plants. They are also urged to keep storm drains clear of debris and to avoid pouring grease into the drainage system. Drivers are cautioned to exercise care when navigating through flooded areas or encountering debris from fallen trees or other objects. The agency also advises people to stay away from structures like walls, trees, power lines, and billboards that appear to be at risk of falling during the adverse weather conditions.
