Mexico City Mayor Takes Helm of National Municipal Association, Calls for Unity

Janecarlo Lozano Reynoso, the head of the Gustavo A. Madero mayor's office in Mexico City, has officially taken over as the national president of the National Confederation of Municipalities of Mexico (CONAMM) for the 2026-2027 term. His inauguration marks a call for a new era of municipal governance.

During his inaugural address, Lozano Reynoso underscored the critical need for a political approach centered on unity, close engagement with citizens, and the robust strengthening of local governments. He celebrated the diverse political representation within CONAMM, stating that it sends a clear message to Mexico about the possibility of building agreements across political divides and prioritizing the needs of the people while defending national sovereignty.

The new CONAMM president announced plans for a nationwide tour of municipalities. The objective is to foster a unified national agenda and enhance coordination among mayors and local governments, irrespective of their political affiliations. This initiative aims to consolidate efforts and address common challenges faced by local administrations across Mexico.

Clara Brugada Molina, the head of Government of Mexico City, lauded Lozano Reynoso's political and administrative capabilities. She described him as a professional, committed, and efficient public servant, expressing confidence in his ability to lead CONAMM effectively. The event was attended by prominent figures, including the president of the Superior Court of Justice of Mexico City, Rafael Guerra Álvarez, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Rigoberta Menchú, senators, government representatives, and business leaders.

CONAMM is a significant organization representing all 2,494 local governments in Mexico. Its new leadership faces the task of navigating diverse political landscapes and strengthening the role of municipalities in the country's governance structure.
