Mexico City Metro Shares Modernization Experience with Bogotá Delegation

Officials from the Mexico City Metro hosted a delegation from Bogotá, Colombia, including the city's Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán, for an exchange of operational experiences. The visit focused on showcasing the modernization of Line 1 and the advanced control systems employed by the Mexican capital's subway network.

By instructions of the Head of Government, Clara Brugada, we have toured practically the entire system and all the operations and have shared very interesting experiences.

The Colombian visitors were given a tour of Central Control Post 1, located within the C-5 security complex. Here, they observed the processes for regulating trains across Lines 1 through 6. Particular attention was paid to the functioning of the Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) system, which has been integrated into Line 1's modernization, replacing the traditional automatic pilot system (PA135).

During their tour of the Metro network, the officials from Bogotá sought to gain insights that would enrich their understanding of mobility systems in both Latin American cities. Mexico City Metro Director General, Adrián Rubalcava Suárez, highlighted that the tour was conducted "by instructions of the Head of Government, Clara Brugada," and involved reviewing the entire system and its operations, leading to "very interesting" shared experiences.

Galán emphasized the importance of understanding the evolution and current projects of the Mexico City Metro, which began operations in 1969 and now boasts 195 stations covering over 226 kilometers.
