Mexico City officials hold pet adoption event for rescued animals

A joint pet adoption event organized by the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) and the Metro system in Mexico City offered a chance for rescued animals to find loving homes. Held at the Glorieta de los Insurgentes, the event saw people engaging with available dogs and cats, aiming for responsible adoptions.

The initiative, announced by both the SSC and Metro earlier in the week, was designed to promote responsible pet ownership and provide a second opportunity for abandoned or mistreated animals. Mónica Garduño, director general of the SSC's Animal Surveillance Brigade, reported that 15 dogs and 9 cats participated. She explained that these animals were rescued by Metro personnel or found as victims of abuse, abandonment, or traffic accidents.

The adoption process requires potential owners to present proof of address, sign a contract, and complete an interview. Following approval, the Brigade transports the animal to the adopter's home. All animals are delivered vaccinated, dewormed, and after undergoing medical and emotional recovery.

Guadalupe Reyes, accompanied by her son Dariel, attended the event with the intention of adopting a cat. They chose a white cat named "Nube" (Cloud). Daath Camylle attended the event not to adopt, but to donate. Camylle contributed a kilogram of dog kibble, two kilograms of cat food, and special milk for kittens, spending approximately 700 pesos. "I love cats very much and wanted to do my part to help," Camylle said, explaining a deep affection for cats, as they own three at home.
