Mexico City's International Film Festival for Children announces 2026 dates and program

Mexico City's International Film Festival for Children, organized by La Matatena A.C., is set to return for its 31st edition, offering a vibrant cinematic experience for young audiences. The festival, which has been a staple since 1995, aims to connect children and adolescents with the art of filmmaking through a diverse selection of national and international productions.

This year's festival, themed "2026 (...and not so Children)," will present 73 films, encompassing documentaries, feature films, short fiction, and animated works. Notably, it will also showcase projects created by children from Mexico and abroad, fostering a sense of global connection and cultural exchange. Several international titles are highlighted, including "The Story of Helene" from Canada, "Pucio and the Crocodile" from Poland, and "The King of the Tramps" from the Netherlands.

Beyond the screenings, the festival will host special guests, including Danish animator Stine Marie Bul, Swedish director Linda Hambäck, and Michael Harbauer, director of Germany's SCHLINGEL International Film Festival for Children and Youth. The event will take place on Saturdays and Sundays from August 8 to August 23, with 14 venues across Mexico City and the State of Mexico. Ticket prices vary by venue, with options for general admission and discounted rates for students and seniors.
