Mexico City's Permanent Driver's License Program Nears End

The government of Mexico City has confirmed that the popular permanent driver's license program is in its final months. Residents have until December 31, 2026, to register and obtain this benefit.

Juan Pablo de Botton, Secretary of Administration and Finance, encouraged citizens to apply for their permanent licenses before the deadline. He stated that the program remains active throughout 2026 but emphasized that it is nearing its conclusion. "This plan remains valid throughout 2026, but we are already saying goodbye to this permanent license program, as it will be valid this year and we are in the final months of the permanent license. So, we invite you to process yours during this year," he said.

Since its inception, the program has been a significant success, with over 2 million permanent licenses already issued in the capital. De Botton highlighted the high acceptance rate among the city's population, underscoring its popularity and utility. Alongside the Head of Government, Clara Brugada, he reiterated that the application window will close at the end of 2026.

This initiative aims to provide a long-term driving solution for residents. The government is urging those who have not yet applied to do so promptly to ensure they do not miss out on this opportunity before it expires.
