Mexico City to strengthen public lighting with new LED fixtures as Sobse opens two tenders

Mexico City is moving to reinforce public lighting in different neighborhoods through two new LED installation projects. The city’s Public Works Secretariat, known as Sobse, published the national tenders in the Official Gazette.

The contracts cover the supply and installation of roadway and pedestrian lighting. They fall under the program for free and safe pathways, which aims to improve lighting along routes used by residents.

Companies seeking the contracts must demonstrate experience in planning, carrying out, evaluating and controlling public works. They must also show financial, administrative and management capacity during the evaluation process.

Tender documents cost 10,000 pesos for each package. They can be purchased on Sept. 1, 2 and 3, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sobse’s Directorate of Engineering Costs and Public Works Contracts in Iztapalapa. The projects are scheduled to start on Sept. 28 and finish on Nov. 26, while decisions on the packages are due Sept. 23.
