Mexico clinches early medals at 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games

Mexico is off to a strong start at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, held in the Dominican Republic, with athletes already securing a significant haul of medals. The Mexican delegation has been particularly successful in the early days of the competition, bringing home multiple gold, silver, and bronze awards.

In rowing, Melissa Márquez and Aylin Ibarra claimed the gold medal in the women's lightweight double sculls. The recurve archery team also demonstrated its prowess, with Matías Grande, Raúl Rodríguez, and Francisco Padilla defeating Colombia in the team event. Badminton saw the mixed team secure a victory against Guatemala.

Open water swimming has been another area of success for Mexico. Paulo Strehlke won the gold medal in the men's 10km race, while Yuritzi Salgado took silver in the women's 10km. Diego Obele and Dalia Berenice Moreno added bronze medals in the same discipline.

Taekwondo also contributed to Mexico's medal count, with William Arroyo dominating the men's traditional individual poomsae event. Cecilia Lee earned a silver medal in the women's traditional poomsae, and Rafael Mejía and Roberto Ahumada secured bronze in lightweight double sculls rowing. Sara Roel added another silver for Mexico in the women's road cycling time trial.
