Mexico highway crash kills nine, injures 10 including four Americans

A devastating multi-vehicle collision on a highway in Mexico's Jalisco state has resulted in nine fatalities and left at least 10 people injured, including four American citizens.

The accident, which involved a tractor-trailer, occurred on the highway linking Guadalajara and Tepic. Civil Protection reported that two minors were among the nine individuals who died. The injured include two members of Mexico's National Guard, who sustained serious injuries and were transported to Magdalena Hospital in Guadalajara.

Social media footage from the scene depicted multiple vehicles engulfed in flames on the highway. According to the Secretariat of Public Security and Citizen Protection of Nayarit, three private vehicles and two trucks were destroyed. Four U.S. citizens, reported to be in minor condition, were taken to Arboledas Hospital in Guadalajara by private ambulance.

Authorities have detained the driver of the truck involved in the crash. The incident highlights the dangers of road travel in the region, with the exact cause of the collision under investigation.
