Mexico issues alert for heavy rains as tropical waves approach

Mexico is on alert for heavy rainfall as tropical waves eight and nine interact with other atmospheric systems, according to the National Meteorological Service. The National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) has urged the public to take preventive measures against the anticipated downpours.

The forecast indicates strong to very strong rains across numerous states, including Durango, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Chiapas. These regions may also experience electrical discharges and hail.

Additionally, intervals of showers are expected in states such as Sinaloa, San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Puebla, Morelos, State of Mexico, Veracruz, Campeche, Yucatán, Quintana Roo, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Mexico City, Tlaxcala, Tamaulipas, Tabasco, and Baja California Sur.

The CNPC emphasized that all three levels of government are coordinating efforts for prevention and response to ensure public safety. Continuous actions are underway to identify areas prone to flooding and landslides, aiming to mitigate risks and inform citizens on necessary protective measures. Emergency services are monitoring the tropical waves and are prepared to activate temporary shelters if needed.
