Mexico Prepares National Boxing Class 'Fists of Transformation' at 107 Venues

Mexico is set to host a nationwide boxing event called "Puños de Transformación" (Fists of Transformation) on Sunday, August 16. The initiative will take place across 107 locations throughout the country, as announced by the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez.

Organized by the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (Conade), the event is designed for children, adolescents, and young people. Its primary goals are to promote engagement in sports, foster personal development, and encourage positive social interaction. Rodríguez Velázquez also extended an invitation to register for the free program "Boxeando por la Paz" (Boxing for Peace), which aims to provide young individuals with a platform for self-improvement and skill development through boxing.

During her announcement, Rodríguez Velázquez emphasized the government's commitment to youth, stating, "The best public policy is to believe in and invest in young people." She also referenced the success of the national "Tequios por la Transformación" event on July 29, which saw participation from over 500,000 young people. Additionally, she mentioned the upcoming "Celebraciones Ser Joven" (Celebrating Being Young) event scheduled for International Youth Day.

The federal government continues to support various peace-focused initiatives. These include ongoing "Festivales por la Paz" (Festivals for Peace), community outreach through house visits, and "Ferias de Paz" (Peace Fairs) that bring essential services like health, guidance, and administrative support to communities. The "Sí al Desarme, Sí a la Paz" (Yes to Disarmament, Yes to Peace) program, active since October 1, 2024, has facilitated the anonymous and voluntary exchange of over 12,000 firearms for cash.
