Mexico provides consular aid to 213 citizens after Colombia earthquake

Mexico has activated its consular protection mechanisms to assist 213 Mexican citizens impacted by a powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck Colombia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) confirmed that the Mexican Embassy in Colombia is actively managing three cases requiring consular support, notably assisting a youth soccer team from Tijuana that was temporarily stranded in Colombia.

Foreign Secretary Roberto Velasco Álvarez led a meeting to assess the situation of vulnerable Mexicans and coordinate necessary actions. A video call with the Mexican Embassy in Colombia and the children's soccer team's technical staff confirmed the delegation's well-being and facilitated arrangements for their safe return.
