Mexico's auto production dips 2.2% in July, light vehicle exports fall 9.7%

Mexico's automotive production experienced a 2.2% year-on-year decline in July, with 302,673 units produced. However, this volume still represents the third-highest production for the month of July in historical records, surpassed only by 2025 and 2017.

For the period of January to July, total automotive production reached 2,298,977 units, a slight decrease of 0.65% compared to the same period last year. This cumulative figure ranks as the fourth-highest production volume for a January-July period.

Several manufacturers saw production drops in July, including Audi (-4%), Honda (-27%), Mercedes Benz (-98%), Nissan (-19%), Stellantis (-20.3%), Toyota (-0.4%), Volkswagen (-7.2%), and JAC (-11%). Mercedes Benz and Nissan are in the process of closing a jointly operated plant in Aguascalientes.

Conversely, some automakers increased their production in July. Acura saw a 22% rise, BMW 16%, Ford 67%, General Motors 3.6%, KIA 16.2%, and Mazda 16.5%.

Vehicle exports also contracted in July, with 261,534 light vehicles shipped abroad, a 9.7% decrease from July 2025. Cumulative exports from January to July totaled 1,950,779 units, a marginal 0.3% decline compared to the previous year. This export volume for the first seven months of 2026 positions it as the fourth-best cumulative period on record.
