Mexico Secures $2.26 Billion in Revenues From World Cup 2026 Hosting

Mexico generated 42.276 billion Mexican pesos ($2.26 billion) in revenues from hosting matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to figures released for the period between June 8 and July 19. This revenue marks a significant 44% increase compared to the same period last year.

The tournament proved to be a major draw, bringing 7.8 million visitors, both domestic and international, to the host cities. Mexico's Ministry of Tourism reported that the overall economic impact, encompassing tourism income and related business activities, reached an estimated 65 billion pesos ($3.48 billion).

Beyond financial gains, the World Cup also spurred job creation, generating 130,900 direct employment opportunities across the host cities. Hotels experienced high occupancy rates, averaging 66% and peaking at 90% on match days. The aviation sector also saw a substantial rise, with airports in host cities managing 6.4 million passengers, reflecting an 18% increase at AIFA and 11.5% at Guadalajara International Airport.

Restaurants reported sales increases of up to 80%, while hotel prices rose by an average of 51.5%. FIFA Fan Fest events in Mexico City, Greater Monterrey, and Guadalajara attracted over 6.7 million attendees. Mexico City was the primary beneficiary, welcoming 4.4 million visitors and achieving an economic impact exceeding 25.8 billion pesos ($1.38 billion).
