Mexico Seizes 143 Slot Machines in Anti-Extortion Raids

Mexican authorities in Michoacán and Sonora have reported the seizure of 143 illegal slot machines as part of broader operations against extortion and drug-related crimes. In Michoacán, the state's Attorney General's Office, in collaboration with public security forces, the army, and the National Guard, executed 10 search warrants in Uruapan. These raids uncovered 49 slot machines, narcotics, and led to the arrest of one individual, identified as Miguel Ángel "N," aged 32. The operation targeted properties in several neighborhoods, including those on Mariano Matamoros street, where seven machines, marijuana, a white powdery substance, cell phones, and shell casings were found. The confiscated items and the arrested suspect were handed over to the Public Ministry. The Secretariat of Public Security in Michoacán also reported seizing an additional 68 slot machines in Huandacareo as part of the national anti-extortion strategy.

During investigative tours, 16 slot machines installed outside businesses were removed from various sectors, along with three "parasite" type cameras.

Meanwhile, in Sonora, the State Attorney General's Office for Justice announced that joint security forces in Nogales confiscated 26 slot machines. The operation also yielded eight "parasite" type surveillance cameras and eight monitors and computers, believed to be used for operating gambling activities. These devices were found in various parts of the city. According to the FGJES, 16 machines were removed from outside businesses on July 21 during investigative patrols, along with three surveillance cameras often used by criminal groups. In the Héroes and El Mirador neighborhoods, agents seized another 10 slot machines, eight monitors, and eight CPUs, suspected of being used for illegal gambling. Investigations suggest these machines and equipment were installed against the will of business owners by alleged members of criminal organizations.
