Mexico sets record with 407 medals at Central American and Caribbean Games

Mexico concluded its participation in the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in the Dominican Republic with a historic haul of 407 medals, dominating the overall standings. This achievement significantly surpassed the previous record of 384 medals, set in Mayagüez in 2010, solidifying one of Mexico's most successful showings in the regional competition.

Authorities and specialists celebrated the results, viewing the performance as an optimistic sign for Mexican sports heading into 2027, a crucial year for many athletes seeking Olympic qualification.

Several athletes stood out for their exceptional performances across various disciplines. Swimmer Celia Pulido was the most decorated athlete of the games, securing a total of 11 medals, including eight golds, one silver, and two bronzes. Itzamary González, a specialist in artistic swimming, earned six gold medals in both individual and team events.

Other notable medalists included rhythmic gymnast Marina Malpica and canoeist Beatriz Briones, both of whom clinched five gold medals. Swimmer Melisa Rodríguez also contributed significantly with five gold medals, further cementing Mexico's dominant presence at the games.
