Mexico U-20 seeks Concacaf title against US after securing Olympic spot

The Mexican U-20 national soccer team is set to face the United States in the Concacaf Championship final this Sunday at the Estadio Banorte. Having already secured their spot in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, the "Tricolor" enters the championship match undefeated and having conceded only one goal throughout the tournament.

Despite the team's strong performance and the promising outlook for this generation of players, head coach Alex Diego has called for measured expectations. "For the future, we are focused on the present. My future is the final against the United States, and I don't think beyond that," Diego stated. "I am ambitious and I want things, obviously I seek more, but my focus now is to win the final, then we will see what happens. We achieved two objectives, one remains, the title, we have to win it. The team is committed."

After missing out on the Paris 2024 Olympics, securing a place in the Los Angeles Games was a primary goal. However, Diego is not content with just Olympic qualification or a spot in next year's U-20 World Cup. He aims to cap off the Concacaf Championship with a title.

"A lot of caution, because we are talking about the U-20, a U-23, where most of the players have few minutes in the First Division," Diego explained. "To be considered for the senior national team, they have to accumulate minutes at their clubs. We must respect all those players who are there, because they have been playing in the First Division for many years. They are consolidated players," he added.
