MG HS PHEV: How the brand's first plug-in hybrid is evolving

MG Motor Mexico is embracing a multi-energy strategy, offering various alternatives to electric vehicles to meet diverse driver needs. At its MG Tech Day event, the company showcased its technological roadmap for the Mexican market, reinforcing the role of hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles within its portfolio.

The MG HS PHEV, a plug-in hybrid SUV, garnered significant attention with its "EV but not EV" concept. This approach aims to deliver an electric driving experience while providing the reassurance of a combustion engine for longer journeys. The vehicle features a 21 kWh battery, offering over 100 kilometers of electric range and a combined range exceeding 1,200 kilometers. It boasts a combined power output of 274 horsepower and remarkable energy efficiency, exceeding 100 km/l in combined conditions.

MG highlighted its Duo Drive technology, a system that integrates an electric generator with an intelligent transmission to optimize energy usage. The company also reported strong sales performance in Mexico, surpassing 250,000 units sold since its market entry and consistently ranking within the Top 10 industry sales for four consecutive years.

From January to April 2026, MG Mexico sold 18,760 vehicles, marking its best start to a year since commencing operations. With models like the MG HS PHEV, the brand aims to strengthen its position in the new energy vehicle segment by adopting a diverse technological approach rather than focusing exclusively on fully electric options.
