Miaoli County offers AI training subsidies for young people

The Miaoli County Government is actively promoting artificial intelligence literacy among its youth through a new initiative designed to bolster digital skills. The "Miaoli County Specific Target Youth AI Digital Skills Improvement Plan" offers financial assistance to help young residents acquire AI-related software, with subsidies reaching up to NT$6,000 per person. This program underscores the county's commitment to preparing its workforce for the rapidly evolving technological landscape.

County Magistrate Chung Tung-chin emphasized the importance of embracing AI, stating, "We are already in the AI era." He encouraged young people in Miaoli to "keep up with the AI wave" to enhance their digital capabilities and improve their competitiveness in the job market. The initiative targets 100 individuals who meet specific eligibility requirements outlined in Article 24 of the Employment Service Act. These criteria include being between 18 and 40 years old and belonging to categories such as low-income households, indigenous youth, individuals with disabilities, new immigrants and their children, women re-entering the workforce, long-term unemployed individuals, and single heads of households.

The Department of Labor and Youth Development highlighted that the rapid advancement of AI technologies has made digital proficiency an indispensable skill across various industries. To navigate the ongoing digital transformation, young people need not only professional knowledge but also the ability to leverage AI tools and cultivate digital thinking to seize future employment opportunities. The program aims to equip them with these essential competencies.

However, he also cautioned about the powerful nature of AI, advising its use "towards benevolent directions" to avoid disputes arising from misinformation or misuse.
