Miaoli County to Host Hakka Language Competition with NT$372,000 Prize Pool

The Miaoli County Government in Taiwan is organizing the "2026 Miaoli County Adults and Children Lively Mouth Competition" on October 18th to foster a family-friendly Hakka language environment and increase its daily use among families. The event offers a total prize pool of NT$372,000, with first-place winners in each category receiving NT$20,000. Online registration opens on August 17th at 9:30 AM.

To create a family-friendly Hakka environment and increase the frequency of daily Hakka use by parents and children, the Miaoli County Government will hold the "2026 Miaoli County Adults and Children Lively Mouth Competition" on October 18th.

The competition targets students currently enrolled in kindergartens and elementary schools in Miaoli County. Each team must include at least one child and one resident relative, with a maximum of four members per team. To accommodate different age groups and Hakka language proficiency, the competition is divided into three categories: kindergarten, lower elementary, and upper elementary. Participants will draw topics and engage in impromptu dialogues based on 20 life-related scenarios, allowing them to showcase their Hakka speaking skills through natural interaction.

The competition is aimed at students currently enrolled in public and private kindergartens and elementary schools in Miaoli County.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams in each category: NT$20,000 for first place, NT$15,000 for second, and NT$10,000 for third, along with awards for excellence and honorable mentions. Registration is open online from August 17th to September 30th. Each category will accept 15 teams on a first-come, first-served basis, with an additional 5 on the waiting list.
