Miaoli man caught drink-driving twice in two months sentenced to 14 months

A man in Miaoli County received a combined prison sentence of one year and two months after police caught him drink-driving twice within two months.

The Miaoli District Court sentenced him to eight months for the February offense and nine months for the April offense, with the terms combined. His breath alcohol readings were 0.77 milligrams per liter and 0.41 milligrams per liter.

On Feb. 20, the man drank beer and a medicinal liquor before riding a scooter. Police stopped him at about 5:39 p.m. and recorded the higher reading. On April 21, he again drank medicinal liquor at home before riding a scooter. Officers stopped him at about 6:40 p.m. and recorded the second reading.

The court noted that he had completed a six-month sentence for drink-driving in 2024 before committing the two new offenses. It said he had disregarded the danger to his own safety and that of the public despite tougher penalties. No crash or other harm occurred, and the man admitted both offenses during the investigation and trial.
