Miaoli shuttle bus crashes into SUV and pole, injuring seven

A high-speed rail shuttle bus in Miaoli, Taiwan, caused a multi-vehicle accident on Thursday afternoon, injuring seven people. The bus rear-ended an SUV at an intersection before veering onto the central median and colliding with a traffic light pole.

The incident occurred around 4:25 p.m. in Toufen City. The bus, carrying 19 passengers, struck a Land Rover Defender that was stopped at a red light. The impact caused the SUV's rear left wheel to detach. The bus then jumped the median, hitting the traffic signal. The SUV's occupants, a man and a woman, escaped unharmed.

The SUV's left rear wheel broke off, and the bus mounted the central median, head-on colliding with the traffic light pole. The scene was a mess.

Seven individuals sustained minor abrasions and bruises: the bus driver and six passengers. Among the injured passengers were three foreign students from University of Kang Ning, two young female tourists, and a woman in her 60s. The bus is managed by the Miaoli County Government's Department of Transportation and Public Works, which has instructed the bus operator to cover medical expenses and provide comfort to the injured.

Police reported that both the bus driver and the SUV driver tested negative for alcohol and drugs. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation.
