MiBus Reports 13.1% Passenger Growth in First Half of 2026

MiBus, Panama City's public bus operator, reported a robust performance in the first half of 2026, moving 74.9 million passengers. This figure represents a significant 13.1% growth compared to the same period last year, highlighting the system's increasing capacity to meet the rising demand for urban transportation.

In June, MiBus concentrated its operational efforts on enhancing urban mobility through route restructuring, frequency adjustments, and strategic planning. During the month, the company completed 263,322 trips, serving 13,025,526 passengers. Key improvements included reorganizing bus bay distribution at the Metro Villa Zaita Interchange to facilitate quicker access to the City of Health and adjusting complementary and Sunday routes for better intermodal connections.

MiBus also implemented measures to improve pedestrian safety, such as rerouting the E436 line to avoid dangerous pedestrian crossings near the Las Américas Industrial Park. To address peak demand, service start times for the Montemadero (E418) and Concepción (E606) routes were advanced. Additionally, the company is progressing with a technological upgrade of its fare collection system, a project led by Sonda in collaboration with the Transit Authority (ATTT) and Metro de Panamá, which is expected to introduce new payment alternatives for passengers.
