Michael Jung wins eventing world championship gold with Chipmunk

Michael Jung has reclaimed the world championship title in eventing, a feat he last achieved 16 years ago. Competing in Aachen, Germany, Jung and his horse Chipmunk delivered a near-perfect performance throughout the competition, culminating in a clear round in the final show jumping discipline. This victory marks Jung's second individual world championship, adding to his impressive collection of accolades, which includes four Olympic golds.

"My voice is still gone. It was unbelievable, the whole week," Jung told ARD after his win. He praised Chipmunk's exceptional abilities and temperament, stating, "Chipmunk is a legend, it's unbelievable. How he can do dressage, jump, gallop in the cross-country. How he listens and how much nerve he has, even though he is also excited. That's gigantic. I am so grateful that I can ride such a horse."

Jung finished with 23.0 penalty points, narrowly edging out British riders Rosalind Canter and Laura Collett. This win avenges a near-miss at the 2022 World Championships, where a single mistake in the final phase cost him the title. In addition to his individual gold, Jung was part of the German team that secured a silver medal in the team event, though they were ultimately beaten by Great Britain.
