Michelin-recognized chef leads Qigu's 7 Treasures Banquet, showcasing premium local seafood

Tainan's Qigu district celebrated its rich marine resources with the highly anticipated 7 Treasures Banquet, a centerpiece of the annual Qigu Seafood Festival. The event, held at the Qigu Salt Mountain, showcased a lavish spread prepared by acclaimed local chef Chen Zhendong, who has been recognized in the Michelin Guide.

Qigu is Tainan's unique treasure trove of fisheries, possessing rich and diverse aquatic products and precious coastal ecological resources.

The banquet featured seven premium local seafood delicacies, including milkfish, tilapia, mullet, grouper, white shrimp, clams, and oysters, all sourced directly from the region. Priced at an accessible 6,500 NT dollars, the feast offered exceptional value, even including a complimentary seafood gift box. The demand was so high that all 120 tables sold out within two minutes of registration opening, highlighting its immense popularity.

Mayor Huang Wei-che attended the event, expressing gratitude for the strong public support and emphasizing Qigu's unique position as a treasure trove of aquatic life and coastal ecosystems. He noted the significant attendance of food enthusiasts from across Taiwan, underscoring the festival's success in drawing visitors to experience the local flavors.

The 7 Treasures Banquet is not only an annual event to taste local seafood but also an important platform for marketing local fishery characteristics and driving local tourism development.

Qigu District Chief Chen Chun-ta further elaborated on the festival's broader goals. Beyond the banquet, the event includes activities such as "Tourism Mud Clam Digging," community agricultural and fishery product sales, and guided tours designed to immerse visitors in the local fishing village culture and industry. The district aims to build a "Black-faced Spoonbill Qigu" tourism brand by integrating ecological, agricultural, fishery, and cultural elements, with support from various government agencies and local organizations.
