Michigan Shooting: Gunman Found Dead After Five Killed in Manhunt

A shooting in northern Michigan on Friday resulted in five deaths and one critical injury, with the suspected gunman found dead following an extensive manhunt. Michigan State Police were dispatched to a residence in Missaukee County, approximately 272 km northwest of Detroit, around 11:40 am local time after receiving a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers discovered three deceased individuals and a fourth person critically wounded. The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Chad Hickman, had fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. Police issued warnings that Hickman was armed and dangerous, urging residents to avoid contact with him.

During the search, investigators located a fourth deceased person at another residence, bringing the total victim count to five. Hickman's vehicle was later found in a wooded area near Whitlock Lake, where he and another individual were subsequently discovered deceased. Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of death for Hickman or the other person found near the vehicle, nor has it been confirmed if this individual was connected to the shooting.

Michigan State Police Lieutenant Ashley Miller described the situation as "heartbreaking for the community and challenging for the investigators involved." She stated, "We remain committed to conducting a thorough investigation and will provide updates as new information becomes available." The identities, ages, and genders of the victims have not yet been released as authorities await family notifications. The investigation is ongoing, and no motive for the attack has been provided.
