Middle East: Iran fires missiles at Jordan and Bahrain, then faces massive attacks itself

Jordanian air defenses intercepted eight Iranian missiles that entered the country's airspace, the military announced. Debris fell to the ground but caused no casualties or property damage, according to a government spokesperson. Sirens wailed across the country as the projectiles entered Jordanian airspace.

The US Embassy in Amman urged US citizens to seek shelter and monitor official alerts due to reports of incoming missiles, drones, and other airborne objects. Social media had previously carried reports of missile launches from several Iranian provinces.

Iran, meanwhile, claimed to have targeted US assets in the region. State media reported that US destroyers and other vessels off the coast of Bahrain were attacked with cruise missiles. Tehran framed these actions as a response to US military bombings in the preceding two days. Earlier reports from Iran had also mentioned attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain, as well as a missile strike on an airbase in Jordan using "Cheibarschekan" ballistic missiles.
