Milan Men's Fashion Week: Dolce & Gabbana's Sicilian escape meets Prada's refined deconstruction

Milan's Spring/Summer 2027 menswear week saw Dolce & Gabbana and Prada offer contrasting visions for the modern gentleman's wardrobe.

Dolce & Gabbana transported the audience to a sun-drenched "Vacanze Siciliane" (Sicilian Holiday), drawing inspiration from the founders' spiritual homeland. The collection featured 80 looks crafted from crochet knits, light linen, and suede, emphasizing loose, breathable silhouettes. Vibrant stripes, postcard prints, and lemon motifs adorned relaxed shorts and flowing garments, creating an effortless traveler's wardrobe. Elaborate beadwork, sequins, and gemstone embellishments brought floral motifs to life, infusing the menswear with rich Sicilian flair and luxurious detail.

In contrast, Prada's creative directors Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons focused on "Clarity," dissecting the essence of clothing itself. Their collection re-examined the value of everyday wear, deconstructing and reconstructing staples like jeans, denim jackets, and T-shirts. Stripped of excessive ornamentation, the pieces showcased sharp tailoring and diverse materials, transcending stylistic boundaries. Translucent fabric suits, leather formalwear, knit jacquard vests, and printed trousers exemplified Prada's experimental spirit, using material clashes and redefined proportions to create looks unbound by occasion or function.

Dolce & Gabbana's collection highlighted Italian passion with colorful striped knit tops paired with ultra-short shorts, embodying their signature style. Meanwhile, Prada's experimental approach was evident in wide-cut suits paired with translucent trousers, redefining classic garments. Taiwanese actor Greg Hsu attended the Prada show in Milan, adding star power to the event.
