MiLB: Taiwanese-American slugger Long homers, gets 4 hits; pitcher Chang takes loss

Taiwanese-American slugger Jonathon Long delivered a powerful offensive performance for the Chicago Cubs' Triple-A affiliate, contributing significantly to their 13-4 triumph over the St. Louis Cardinals' Triple-A squad. Long's impressive day at the plate included four hits in six at-bats, a solo home run, his 11th of the season, and two runs batted in.

Long's hitting streak included a game-tying solo shot in the third inning and a crucial RBI double in the fifth, which he later scored on. He also added a single in the ninth inning, marking his fourth hit of the game. His strong July performance, with four home runs, 12 RBIs, and a .386 batting average, has boosted his season stats to a .281 average and an .810 OPS.

In contrast, Taiwanese pitcher Chang Hung-ling, playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates' High-A team, faced a difficult outing. He started against the Texas Rangers' High-A team and, after a scoreless first inning, struggled in the second, giving up two runs due to a walk and a double, followed by a wild pitch. Chang's outing worsened in the third and fourth innings when he surrendered two two-run home runs, leading to his removal after four innings.

Chang pitched 81 pitches, 52 of which were strikes, and was charged with six runs on seven hits, including two home runs. He recorded six strikeouts and four walks, along with one wild pitch, resulting in his fourth loss of the season and raising his ERA to 8.65.

Another young Taiwanese talent, 19-year-old outfielder Ko Ching-hsien of the Los Angeles Dodgers' Single-A team, went 1-for-5 with a walk and scored two runs in his team's 11-5 victory over the San Diego Padres' Single-A squad. Ko maintains a .272 batting average and an .895 OPS.
