Military Arrests 19 Suspects After Ambush on Security Operatives in Plateau

In Plateau State, Nigeria, troops operating under Operation Enduring Peace have apprehended 19 individuals in connection with a recent deadly ambush on security operatives. The arrests took place on Tuesday in Tongoron, Riyom Local Government Area, during a targeted clearance operation aimed at identifying those responsible for the attack.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama, citing intelligence sources, reported that the operation was launched following an ambush on a joint security patrol along the Ganawuri-Sabon Gida Road. The suspects, comprising 14 indigenes of Tongoron and five Fulani residents, are currently undergoing profiling to determine any links to the ambush or other criminal activities in the area.

Military authorities stated that the operation is a component of broader clearance and cordon-and-search efforts. These initiatives are designed to apprehend the perpetrators of the attack, recover weapons stolen from the fallen operatives, and preempt future security incidents within Riyom Local Government Area.

The arrests follow a reported ambush where four security operatives from two different formations were attacked while manning a roadblock. Reports indicate that two operatives failed to return to their posts, leading to a search operation that discovered their bodies. The victims were identified as a police inspector and a Nigerian Air Force lance corporal, with their service rifles reportedly stolen during the attack. Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the Plateau State Police Command and Operation Enduring Peace were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
