Minibus and truck carrying illegal fuel seized in Batán; 6 suspects arrested

In a significant bust in Batán, Limón, law enforcement agencies have apprehended six individuals involved in the illicit trade of stolen fuel. The operation, a joint effort by the OIJ (Organismo de Investigación Judicial) and the Fuerza Pública, resulted in the interception of a minibus and a truck loaded with a substantial quantity of illegally obtained fuel.

Authorities discovered 58 drums and two smaller tanks filled with the contraband, indicating a well-organized operation. The fuel is believed to have been extracted illegally, likely from pipelines or other sources, and was destined for illicit markets. The arrests highlight the ongoing efforts by Costa Rican authorities to combat fuel theft and related criminal activities that undermine legitimate businesses and pose environmental risks.
