Minister: Attack on Berlin Pride Event Was Islamist Terror Attack

Germany's Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated Sunday that the attack at a Berlin Pride event was an "Islamist terror attack." A car drove into a crowd during the Christopher Street Day celebration on Saturday evening, killing one woman and injuring 29 others.

"Everything we see points to an Islamist terror attack," Dobrindt said during a press conference. He noted that the suspect, a 21-year-old man, had previously attracted the attention of authorities due to numerous crimes, radicalization, and connections to the Islamist environment.

The suspect fled the scene on foot after the vehicle crashed into a tree. Three of the injured are in life-threatening condition. German news agency DPA reported that the car struck several people before crashing. The pride event was evacuated, and the weekend's festivities were canceled.

Randolph Schnorbus, who was near the event until an hour before the attack, described the incident as a shock. He expressed concern about the increasing restrictions on the LGBTQ+ movement, stating, "Things like this happen more and more often; it's simply terrible."
