Minister: Signs of Russian Hybrid Warfare Under Migrant Flow to Ceuta

Danish Minister for Immigration and Integration Morten Bødskov has linked the recent surge of migrants from Morocco to the Spanish enclave of Ceuta to Russian influence and hybrid warfare tactics. He informed EU member states of this assessment during a meeting on Tuesday, as reported by Politiken.

European authorities observed a substantial online campaign during the Ceuta crisis. This included approximately 6,000 posts from pro-Russian Telegram accounts and around 2,000 articles on pro-Russian websites. These posts frequently claimed that the EU's border cooperation had collapsed and that chaos was unfolding across Europe.

"At the meeting, we were told that European authorities had registered very high social media activity from pro-Russian sites and accounts," Bødskov told Politiken. He declined to definitively state whether the Russian interference merely exploited the existing situation or actively influenced it.

The minister's comments highlight concerns within the EU about the use of migration flows as a tool in hybrid warfare, with Russia allegedly leveraging such events to destabilize European borders and sow discord. The specific nature and impact of the Russian online campaign remain under investigation.
