Ministry flags Tancoo deepfake video

Trinidad and Tobago's Ministry of Finance has issued a stern warning regarding a fraudulent video circulating on social media platforms. The manipulated content, known as a "deepfake," falsely portrays Minister of Finance Davendranath Tancoo endorsing a foreign exchange trading platform and specific investment schemes, including references to "Nadia Sanchez" and "Bullfield Holdings."

In this fictitious footage, the minister is falsely depicted as endorsing a specific individual, foreign forex trading platforms, and financial investment schemes (specifically referencing ‘Nadia Sanchez’ and ‘Bullfield Holdings’)

The ministry unequivocally stated that the video is completely fake, unauthorized, and malicious. Minister Tancoo has never made any such pronouncements, nor does he or the Ministry of Finance endorse any private trading agents, cryptocurrency schemes, or specific financial advisors. The public is strongly advised to disregard the video and refrain from sharing or circulating it.

The Ministry of Finance categorically states that this video is completely fake, unauthorised, and malicious.

This incident follows a similar occurrence in August 2025, where both Tancoo and Minister of Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence Dominic Smith were falsely implicated in investment schemes. The ministry emphasized the need for public vigilance against sophisticated digital scams that exploit the likeness and voices of public officials. All official communications from the Minister or the Ministry of Finance are disseminated solely through verified Government channels and reputable media outlets.
