Ministry of Culture Allocates 10 Million Dinars for Church of Saint George Restoration at Oplenac

Serbia's Ministry of Culture has committed 10 million dinars (approximately $92,000 USD) to support crucial investigative and conservation work on the facade of the Church of Saint George at Oplenac. The announcement was made following the signing of an agreement between Minister of Culture Nikola Selaković and Dragan Reljić, manager of the King Peter I Karađorđević Foundation.

Minister Selaković highlighted the historical significance of Topola, describing it as the "cradle of modern Serbian statehood." He emphasized that the Church of Saint George, a mausoleum for the Karađorđević royal family, is a jewel of the region. The allocated funds are intended to provide essential insights and guidance for the church's first comprehensive reconstruction since its construction.

I am convinced that with these funds, we will significantly contribute to the best possible conditions for carrying out this future repair and reconstruction.

Beyond the facade work, the Ministry of Culture has also allocated an additional 250,000 dinars for the creation of a virtual tour of the Church of Saint George and its surroundings. This initiative aims to enhance the cultural and tourism appeal of the Oplenac complex. In total, the Ministry has provided 21,150,000 dinars to the Topola municipality this year through various cultural funding programs, including support for the Center for Culture and the local library's children's department.

A total of 21 million dinars has been allocated by the Ministry of Culture for just three calls for proposals this year. We haven't finished the procedures for all calls yet, and knowing how dedicated Topola is to culture, I am convinced that in the coming weeks there will be more good news for Topola and all its residents.
