Minnesota man killed his wife and child at daycare after killing another relative, police say

A horrific act of violence unfolded in Hopkins, Minnesota, when a man killed his wife and 7-year-old daughter at the home daycare they owned, before fatally shooting himself. Police believe the 41-year-old man also killed a 78-year-old relative at her home sometime before the daycare attack. The couple's daycare, Brown Bear Childcare, was operating with a state license for up to 10 children. All six other children present during the incident were physically unharmed. The shocking discovery was made by another parent dropping off their child, who then alerted authorities. Hopkins Police Chief Brent Johnson described the scene as a "tragic day and horrific scene for little children to witness." Investigators are working to establish a clear motive and the precise timeline between the killings in Hopkins and a separate fatal stabbing of a woman in Burnsville, approximately 20 miles away, which is believed to be linked. The man had been living at the Burnsville home of the relative he is suspected of killing. No prior police calls to the Hopkins address had been reported. Neighbors expressed shock, with one resident noting the difficulty of explaining the crime scene tape to her own young child.
