Minor earthquakes recorded in Venezuela

The Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research (Funvisis) has reported seismic activity in the country, including a magnitude 3.9 earthquake detected north of the city of La Victoria. The tremor occurred during the evening hours on Thursday and had a focal depth of 5.0 kilometers.

Earlier on the same day, another earthquake, measuring magnitude 3.6, was registered northwest of Mérida. Funvisis also noted that this seismic event had a depth of 5.0 kilometers, indicating shallow activity.

These recent tremors add to the ongoing seismic monitoring in Venezuela, which has been experiencing significant aftershock activity. Since the major earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 on June 24, the country has recorded more than 1,700 aftershocks. Those earlier events resulted in a substantial loss of life, with official reports indicating over 6,000 fatalities and thousands of displaced individuals.
