Minority coalition to contest parliamentary election on a list without a prominent leader

Coalition 381 will contest Serbia’s upcoming parliamentary election on a list that does not bear the name of a political leader. The alliance, made up of the Bosniak Civic Party, the Party of Montenegrins, the Vlach People’s Party and the Civic Alliance of Hungarians, announced that it will run as “Fraternal Alliance 381: Together for Our Country.”

The coalition said a leader’s recognizability can be part of politics, but warned that politics changes when a leader becomes more important than the idea, institutions and people behind it. “We do not accept that,” it said in its statement.

Coalition 381 said it is putting forward the idea of unity and arguing that Serbia belongs to all its citizens, not to one political group, one leader or one national community. It said its alliance brings together Serbs, Bosniaks, Montenegrins, Vlachs, Hungarians, Yugoslavs and others who believe differences do not have to become divisions.
